Research Computing Infrastructure Officer
Salary: £33,199 – £39,609 per annum
Location: Edinburgh, Midlothian
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Computing Infrastructure Officer, within the Information Services Team based at The University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush (Midlothian) Campus.
We are looking for someone to manage and oversee the continuous development of the Roslin Institute’s Linux based IT infrastructure services.
Vital to the day to day activities of the Institute, these services are used to underpin research output to enhance the lives of animals and humans through world class research in animal biology.
Experience and skills
As an accomplished Linux system administrator, we are looking for someone with experience of:
- Linux server installation using automated tools
- use of configuration management utilities
- installing complex software from both repositories and source
- administering open source web and database servers
- resolving complex technical issues, using a systematic and analytic approach
You will be comfortable with designing, implementing and supporting the development of new or existing solutions.
Excellent communication skills are required in order to communicate effectively with researchers, academics and technical stakeholders and to succeed as an integral part of the campus IS team’s Infrastructure section.
Experience with Red Hat based operating systems, Foreman and Puppet administration and familiarity with managing virtualisation from a VMware cluster is desirable but not essential.
